SPECIAL SESSION:
Developing Industry Standards for Telemedicine: A Joint Forum
Sponsored by ATA and the U.S. National Institutes of Standards and Technology
A recent U.S. Department of Commerce report on telemedicine concluded that the development of industry-wide standards will significantly help resolve interoperability issues, support evidence-based practices, lower purchasing costs, assure compliance and promote the rapid development of telemedicine. This innovative, facilitated session will be conducted in a "Fish-Bowl" format with a diverse group of telemedicine technology developers and users/consumers to discuss "technical and operational gaps" and to develop a blueprint for design priorities of the future. It marks the start of a collaborative initiative between ATA, the National Institute of Standards adn Technology and the new U.S. Measurement Systems Initiative to identify and resolve critical technical and operational barriers facing telemedicine.
